Tech – macOS

About macOS

macOS must be the world’s best operating system and exclusive to Apple Mac hardware.

The underlying technology is based on decades old UNIX.

As far as been publicly released it has operated on three different chipsets, PowerPC, Intel x86 and more recently ARM based Apple Silicon. The current version will only run on Intel and ARM based iMacs, MacBooks, MacPros, MacMinis and MacStudios.

The vast majority of creative teams I work with use macOS. The exception is for those serious Cinema 4D/Redshift people that must use Windows to access their favourite Nvidia Graphics Cards.

My Experience with macOS

macOS is a technology I have supported since 1999.

Starting with Mac OS 7 I have used every version of macOS.

In 1999 I helped the teams at Allen International migrate to macOS 8.

It would have been early 2000 when I helped Midsummer Books migrate to version 9.

I tested all the early versions of the ‘new’ Mac OS X and eventually started large projects in migrating Midsummer Books (Hammersmith and Fulham) and Allen International (Kensington, West London) in 2004 to the version known as Jaguar, version 10.2.

Over the years I have used various management tools to help maintain and secure the mac estates of design and similar companies. Examples of these technologies are:

  • DeployStudio.
  • Munki.
  • Casper / Jamf Pro.
  • Mosyle – MDM.
  • Apple Business manager.
  • Apple Remote Desktop.
