About Ubiquiti Unifi

Ubiquiti Unifi is a series of products from Ubiquiti that offer simplified but powerful Network solutions including Ethernet and Wireless, Firewalls and CCTV.

The products are quite Apple like, nicely designed hardware and nice interfaces, they were actually developed but ex-Apple staff. But unlike the old Apple Airport products they are not so dumbed down and offer advanced networking like VLANs, central management and matching Ethernet hardware like 10Gbps and 1Gbps Switches.

My Experience with Unifi hardware

As a Freelance IT Support person, where possible, I like to test what I install for clients on my home network. So far I have operated systems like Pfsense, Watchguard Firewall, Ruckus wifi, Meraki wifi and also I currently run Unifi firewall/router with their switches and wireless access points… I had a ‘Cloud Key’ but have since replaced it with just the Network Controller app installed locally on a small PC (actually it is a Home Assistant appliance but that is another thing altogether!)
